The library for the Sac and Fox tribe in Stroud, Oklahoma, was created as a community center to support literacy and tribal culture. The strong storytelling tradition of the Sac and Fox served as a concept, which was further manifested through the use of geometric forms, colors found in traditional art forms, and local materials. The design also explored the relationship between community center functions (such as computer use) with traditional library uses (such as researching, studying, and reading) to find balance between these activities. Key adjacencies promoted ease of use and access, privacy, centralized information, and safety.
Skills | Applied research on building type and on tribal culture; AutoCAD, SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop
